GOSHEN — State Police found the body of a 64-year-old man who was reported missing while hunting in the woods in Chesterfield this week in Goshen on Friday, according to David Procopio, a State Police spokesman.
The man, who is not being identified, was the subject of an extensive search that began Wednesday evening when he made contact with someone and said he would stay put, based on a report from Western Mass News. According to Northwestern District Attorney spokeswoman Laurie Loisel, he man was not from western Massachusetts, but had been staying in a rented hunting cabin in Chesterfield.
Loisel said there wereno apparent injuries and no foul play is suspected, and that the office of the chief medical examiner will determine a cause of death.
“It appears as though he was out hunting and may have lost his way,” Loisel said.
The search, including use of a drone, an airwing and a police dog unit, resumed Thursday, and a ping from his cellphone was used to identify his general location.
Procopio said the Special Emergency Response Team for State Police located the body and an investigation into his death is ongoing.
