Bicyclist dies after being struck by car near Northampton High School

NORTHAMPTON — A car struck and killed a bicyclist on Wednesday afternoon near the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and Elm Street near Northampton High School.

The victim was a 69-year-old Northampton man, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

After the crash at 4:15 p.m., the victim was taken to Cooley Hospital Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver, a 23-year-old Haydenville woman, stayed at the scene and cooperated with police. No charges or citations have been issued.

The crash remains under investigation by Northampton police, the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit attached to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, referred to as CARS.
