HOLYOKE — A family of seven was displaced from their home Wednesday evening after a fire started in their basement.

Firefighters responded to 132 Cabot St. at around 5:30 p.m. where they found a basement fire had started at the same time strong winds took down a tree behind the house, dragging down power lines in the process.

“The residents were able to safely evacuate and the crews were able to contain the fire to the contents of the basement,” Holyoke Fire Capt. Kevin Cavagnac said in a statement.

No injuries were reported, and the displaced family received aid from the American Red Cross, Cavagnac said.

The city’s fire department and state Department of Fire Services are investigating the cause of the fire.
