Terry Kitchen at Song & Story Swap

Singer-songwriter Terry Kitchen, who originally came out of the 1980s Boston rock scene, will be the featured performer at this month’s Song & Story Swap in Amherst on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 7 p.m.

Kitchen, who’s been a regular peformer over the years at Club Passim, Cafe Lena, the Telluride Bluegrass Festival and other storied acoustic music venues, has released 12 CDs, written music for several films and been a winner of a number of songwriting competitions.

The Song & Story Swap, which takes place at the Nacul Center, 592 Main St., is open to all ages and to singers, storytellers and listeners. Admission is free, with a suggested minimum donation to the artist of $10. 

Open Studios at Cottage Street in Easthampton

Cottage Street Studios will feature its annual open studios and sales event this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 1-2, and on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

This longtime holiday special will feature the work of neatly 50 participating artists, many recognized both nationally and internationally. Artists in the historic and restored mill building work in photography, painting, mosaics, sculpture, furniture and lamp design and other mediums.

The Easthampton High School Chorus will sing holiday songs at the studios this Saturday, and staff from Easthampton’s Fort Hill Brewery will pour samples for guests 21 years and older each day of the event. For more information, visit cottagestreetstudios.com.

Valley Jazz Voices performs in Holyoke

Valley Jazz Voices (VJV), the Northampton community singing ensemble, will present an evening of jazz vocals and a special guest, Andrea Niki, at Gateway City Arts in Holyoke on Saturday, Dec. 8.

VJV brings together over 30 local singers of different ages to celebrate vocal jazz, including swing, bop, cool, and Brazilian numbers, with accompaniment by the Jim Argiro Trio. Niki, an experienced jazz singer who fronts a number of jazz bands, including the Jim Argiro Trio, will open the 8 p.m. show.

The concert will be followed by an open mic for jazz singers and players from 9:30-10:30 p.m., with accompaniment by the Jim Argiro Trio. Bring your charts and sign up on arrival. Tickets are $10 at the door and are also available online at www.gatewaycityarts.com/valley-jazz-voices.
