EASTHAMPTON — An Easthampton woman is scheduled to be arraigned in Northampton District Court on Feb. 15 in connection to a crash that led to the death of Denise Herzog, 63, of Easthampton, in December.

Ruby Schmid, 62, will face charges of negligent motor vehicle homicide, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and a civil crosswalk infraction, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office.

Police allege Herzog was walking in a marked crosswalk across Cottage Street in Easthampton’s downtown on Dec. 3 when she was struck by Schmid, who was driving a gray Pontiac minivan. Herzog was taken to the hospital and died the next day.

Negligent motor vehicle homicide is a misdemeanor charge punishable by up to 2½ years in jail and a conviction carries a 15-year loss of license.

The collision was investigated by Easthampton Police, Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services, and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.
