Wednesday’s prep schools: Williston boys soccer earns first victory

A pair of locals helped secure the first win of the season for the Williston Northampton boys soccer team Wednesday afternoon.

Davis Smith (Amherst) scored the game’s lone goal and Jacob Zaranek (South Deerfield) earned a shutout with six saves as the Wildcats beat Pomfret 1-0 in Easthampton.

Smith converted a pass from Imran Hayatu-Deen roughly 12 minutes into the contest. Zaranek and the Wildcats defense made the tally stand.

Field hockey

Williston 1, Hotchkiss 1 — Delaney Belinskas had a goal and Morgan Fogleman stopped 12 shots for the Wildcats (2-1-1) in the home draw.

Boys water polo

Williston 19, Wilbraham & Monson 10 — The Wildcats (2-3) scored 12 of 13 second-half goals to overcome a two-goal halftime deficit in the win in Wilbraham.

James Hatch led Williston with six goals, while David Fitch had four and Josh Calianos (Northampton) added a pair. Noah DeVos made nine saves in the victory.

Girls volleyball

Pomfret 3, Williston 0 — Sarah Marion (Granby) had 12 digs, four kills and a block but the Wildcats (0-3) were swept at home, 25-20, 25-18, 25-5.

Dylan Fulcher-Melendy (Easthampton) had nine digs and an ace, while Julia Cavanaugh (Florence) added a block for Williston.
