Truck fire briefly delays I-91 traffic

Last modified: Monday, August 03, 2015

NORTHAMPTON — A small truck that caught fire Sunday night near the Northampton-Hatfield line delayed southbound traffic on Interstate 91 for around half an hour.

According to state police, the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. in the southbound lane of I-91, just south of where Elm Street crosses over the highway from Hatfield to link with Routes 5 and 10 in Northampton.

Two Northampton fire trucks and state police responded to the scene.

Police said they did not have immediate details on the incident, such as how long traffic was delayed or whether the truck driver was injured. But no ambulances were visible at the scene at approximately 8 p.m., and southbound traffic had begun moving again by then. The damaged truck was being pulled onto a tow truck at that point.
