AMHERST — An Amherst man was found dead in a service station bathroom early Saturday morning, police said.

The 36-year-old man was discovered in the restroom of the Hess Express at 468 West St. in South Amherst around 3 a.m. Saturday, according to Mary Carey, spokeswoman for the Northwestern district attorney’s office. Neither Amherst Police or the district attorney’s office had released his name as of Sunday night.

No foul play is suspected, and the death remains under investigation. The cause of death will be determined by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, Carey said.

Amherst Police, Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Northwestern district attorney’s office and the Crime Scene Services Section responded to the scene Saturday, Carey said.

Police were no longer at the scene about 4:30 p.m. Saturday, and Hess employees said they were unable to comment about the death. The bathroom was open for use.
