SPRINGFIELD — Those who love both Oscar-season fashion and animals will be drawn to a Dakin Humane Society event.

The animal welfare shelter will host what it’s playfully calling its PAWSCARS and Red Carpet fundraiser Saturday at the MassMutual Center in Springfield.

“The event occurs less than a week following the actual Oscars, and we’re borrowing some their elements and making them truly our own,” Lee Chambers, the organization’s marketing and communications manager, said in an email.

The PAWSCARS will be Dakin’s “biggest fundraiser of all time,” according to the organization’s statement. The evening begins with a reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7. The night is capped off by the Red Carpet Fashion Parade and a showing of 10 videos submitted by the public that feature pets reenacting iconic moments in Hollywood cinema.

The organization provided a sneak peek on its Facebook page, which depicts a promo poster of “Valley of the Dolls” where a feline plays the main role of Neely O’Haira.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, “Rhymes with Orange” cartoonist Hilary Price and Dina McMahon of 94.7 WMAS are among a number of local celebrities and politicians who will walk Dakin’s red carpet with a canine companion during the parade.

Outfits for the parade will be provided by local clothiers from the Holyoke and Eastfield malls.

Tickets for the fundraiser are $125 per person and include the reception, dinner, valet parking and the show. Alternative tickets that grant access only for the 8:30 p.m. show are available at $50 per person.

The event is sponsored by over 20 corporate and media companies. All proceeds go toward supporting the Dakin’s locations in Springfield and Leverett. The humane society offers medical care, spaying and neutering services for donated and abandoned pets. It operates an adoption center.

The organization is also supported by sales from its Diamonds in the Ruff pet supply thrift store, community donations and the labors of over 1,000 volunteers, according to its website.
