Weekend preps: Ostberg starts, propels Williston’s win over Wilbraham & Monson, 48-18

The Williston defeated Wilbraham & Monson, 48-18, on the road Saturday.

The Wildcats (4-1) exploded for 34 points in the first half and never looked back. In his first start, sophomore quarterback Ian Ostberg (Florence) led Williston completing 9-12 for 198 yards and four touchdowns.

Michael Dereus caught two touchdowns from Ostberg and returned a punt for a 53-yard touchdown, all in the first half.

Junior running back Nick Garafano rushed for 144 yards and found the end zone twice on 15 carries. Garafano added another touchdown for the Wildcats on a 30-yard pass from Ostberg. On the defensive side of the ball, senior Marshall Rizzuto caught two interceptions.

Girls Soccer

Pomfret 2, Williston 1 — Gabby Thomas scored the only goal for the Wildcats (2-5-4) who lost on the road Saturday.

Field Hockey

Williston 4, Pomfret 1 — Delaney Belinskas scored twice to help power the Wildcats (8-3) to a win on the road Saturday. Julia Lustenader and Maddy Jerdman both scored on assists from Belinskas.

Morgan Fogleman and Morgan Fisher combined for three saves in net for Williston.


Worcester Academy 3, Williston 1 — Natalia Baum had 17 kills and one dig as the Wildcats (1-8) lost on the road in four sets on Saturday, 15-25, 28-26, 23-25, 17-25.

Boys Water Polo

Hopkins 13, Williston 9 — The Wildcats (3-9) fell on the road Saturday despite a six goal effort by Calvin Frye.

Boys Cross Country

Taft 25, Williston 30 — Rod Champigny took first place with a time of 16:44, but the Wildcats (5-4) were defeated on the road Saturday.

Girls Cross Country

Taft 18, Williston 39 — Sam Madden paced the Wildcats (4-2) with a time of 21:38 and took fifth place, but it wasn’t enough as Williston lost on the road on Saturday.
