Tuesday’s colleges: Smith soccer pushes past Mount Holyoke in second half

The Smith College women’s soccer team used two second-half goals to beat Mount Holyoke 2-0 in Northampton Tuesday.

Jordan Houston scored the first in the 57th minute and Emily Smith added an insurance goal eight minutes later for the Pioneers (6-6-3, 4-3-2 NEWMAC).

Jackie Foody picked up two assists, while Shelby Hall made three saves.

Zoe Marshall made two stops for the Lyons (6-11, 2-7 NEWMAC).

Trinity 1, Amherst College 0 (2OT) — Holly Burwick made three saves in the loss for the Lord Jeffs (11-4-0, 7-3-0 NESCAC) at home.

Western New England 4, Salve Regina 0 — Emma Norden (Belchertown) scored the final goal for the Golden Bears (7-8-4, 4-3-2 CCC).

Field hockey

Keene State 2, Smith College 1 — Kat Estes scored the lone goal for the Pioneers (3-14) as the fell at home.

Mount Holyoke 5, Westfield State 0 — Julia Bell had two goals and assist, while Kirsten Kilburn had one of each as the Lyons (14-2) won on the road. Allison Slysz (Hatfield) had an assist.

Women’s volleyball

Mount Holyoke 3, Smith College 0 — Emma Sweeting had 21 kills as the Lyons (4-21, 1-8 NEWMAC) swept the Pioneers (6-20, 1-8 NEWMAC).

Natalie Lyon had 20 assists, while Katrina Meserve led with 15 digs in the win.

Dayra Diaz Marquez had a match-high 21 digs for Smith .
