Thursday’s colleges: Smith College fends off MCLA in five sets for volleyball victory

Smith College and MCLA traded sets twice, but the Pioneers held on for the five-set women’s volleyball victory, Thursday in Northampton.

Smith won 25-14, 18-25, 25-22, 19-25, 15-9.

Dayra Diaz Marquez had 24 assists and 17 digs, while Mei-Li Smith added 16 kills, 28 digs and 15 assists in the win.

Julie Voorhes added 24 digs, while Samantha Danguilan had 19 and Allison Hardy (10 kills) 17 for the Pioneers (4-2).

Former Frontier Regional standouts Courtney Parent and Angelica Perfido played well for MCLA (2-3). Parent had 31 assists and 12 digs, while Perfido had 17 digs and five kills.

Women’s soccer

UMass 0, Northeastern 0 (2OT) — Danielle Kriscenski had six saves as the Minutewomen (2-3-2) ended in a scoreless draw on the road Thursday.
