Wednesday’s college recaps: Smith College holds off Springfield

Paulina Solis had 23 points as the Smith College women’s basketball team held off Springfield College for a 57-54 win, Wednesday in Springfield.

Sydney Parkmond (11 points) and Rosa Drummond (10 points) each had seven rebounds for the Pioneers (13-10, 12-5 NEWMAC).

Coast Guard 64, Mount Holyoke 40 — Amber Legare had 17 points and 11 rebounds, while Genelle Green added 10 rebounds, but the Lyons (5-17, 2-15 NEWMAC) fell on the road.

George Mason 101, UMass 73 — Five players reached double figures but it wasn’t enough as the Minutewomen (3-22, 0-11 Atlantic 10) fell on the road.

Kim Pierre-Louis had 15 points and 11 rebounds, while Jasmine Harris (14 points), Nola Henry (13 points), Emily Mital (11 points) and Kiara Bomben (10 points) reached double digits for UMass.

Men’s basketball

Wheaton 91, Clark 70 — Zach Parsons (Belchertown) had 12 points and 11 rebounds as the Lyons (8-12, 3-8 NEWMAC) snapped a six-game losing streak.

Women’s squash

Amherst 7, Mount Holyoke 2 — The Lord Jeffs (8-10) dropped the first two positions, but picked up wins in matches 3-9 to earn the win over the Lyons (9-10) in Amherst.
