HOLYOKE — Police have identified the victim of Sunday morning’s fatal car crash on Route 141 as Peter L. Rigali, 31, of Holyoke.

According to authorities, Rigali was the driver and lone occupant of the car when he apparently lost control and crashed about 1 a.m.

According to Holyoke Police Capt. Denise Duguay, Rigali’s car was traveling east on Easthampton Road approaching Interstate 91 on-ramp 17A when it veered off the right side of the road, slid sideways, hit the guardrail, launched over it, sheared a utility pole and came to rest in a tree.

Rigali was ejected from the vehicle, Duguay said, and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to the Associated Press, an autopsy has been scheduled to try and determine what may have caused Rigali to lose control of the car.

The accident remains under investigation, Duguay said.
