AMHERST — An Amherst man died on the Norwottuck Rail Trail Thursday morning, according to a spokeswoman for the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office.

“The death appears to be from natural causes, pending a determination by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and is not considered suspicious,” said spokeswoman Mary Carey.

Carey said the man, 50, died after collapsing on the trail. She said the district attorney’s office would not release his name because there is no crime.

Amherst police and fire department personnel responded to the scene about 11 a.m.
