Tuesday’s colleges: Mount Holyoke strikes down MCLA in double overtime soccer

Ali Rossi scored an unassisted goal in double overtime as the Mount Holyoke soccer team beat MCLA 3-2 in South Hadley Tuesday.

Belchertown native Natalie Caney scored late in the second half to tie the game 2-2 for MCLA, which rallied from an 0-2 deficit.

Anne Shaffrey and Cassidy Robinson each scored, while Kara Singleton had an assist for the Lyons (5-4).

Alyssa Tabrisky made nine saves in the win.

Brandeis 1, Smith College 0 — Alanna Lynch made seven saves but the Pioneers (3-5-1) fell on the road.

Field hockey

Smith College 3, Simmons 1 — Allie Stein (assist), Rebecca Meagher and Elsie Odhiambo each scored a goal as the Pioneer (8-0) remained undefeated with the win at home.

Maddi Wyda made two saves in the win.

Women’s tennis

Springfield 7, Smith College 2 — Kelli Cheung and Margaret Anne Smith each won but the Pioneers (0-5) fell at home.

Women’s volleyball

Smith College 3, Emmerson 0 — Paige Sarlandt had nine kills, 10 digs and a block, while Rosa Drummond added 11 kills and a block as the Pioneers (10-4, 3-3 NEWMAC) won at home.

Wellesley 3, Mount Holyoke 1 — Martina Kneifel had nine kills and five digs, while Athena Donta (Amherst) and Kaleen Iwema each had eight digs but the Lyons (8-6, 0-6 NEWMAC) fell 25-9, 19-25, 25-16, 25-12 at home.
