Tuesday’s colleges: UMass field hockey moves to 3-0 with win over Lowell

The University of Massachusetts field hockey team cruised past UMass-Lowell Tuesday, winning 6-0 at Garber Field.

Brooke Sabia scored two goals for the Minutewomen, who claimed the inaugural Kennedy Cup.

Lauren Allymohamed, Hannah Farrell, Cliodhna Loughlin and Hannah Prince each had a goal. Alexa Sikalis added a pair of assists, while Alyssa Ineson, Sabia and Charlotte Verelst each had one.

Sam Carlino did not face a shot in net for UMass (3-0).

Smith College 5, Nichols 1 — Allie Stein had two goals and one assist, while Jenny Estes, Kat Estes and Marissa Vara each had one for the Pioneers (1-0).

Emma Camilleri, of Florence, had one assist.

Abbey Petronzio made three saves in the win.

Women’s volleyball

Smith College 3, Simmons 0 — The Pioneers opened the season with a 25-18, 25-17, 25-21 win at home.

Mount Holyoke 3, Newbury 0 — Emma Sweeting had 13 kills, Kaleen Iwema had 15 digs and Stephany Yang added 14 assists as the Lyons (2-0) won on the road.

Athena Donta, of Hadley and Amherst Regional, had four digs and two aces in the win.
