Two injured in Pelham rear-end crash Monday

PELHAM — Two people were taken to the hospital after a rear-end crash on Amherst Road in Pelham about 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Elizabeth Leach, 29, of Monson, was stopped on Amherst Road, waiting to make a left turn onto North Valley Road, when her car was struck from behind by a vehicle driven by Joan Hart, 86, of Pelham, according to Pelham Police Chief Gary Thomann.

Hart was treated and released at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton for facial cuts. A passenger in Leach’s car who Thomann did not identify also was taken to the hospital with neck pain.

Thomann said both vehicles were heavily damaged and the accident remains under investigation.

Springfield man arrested on drug charges in Easthampton

EASTHAMPTON — Charles R. Crosby, 25, of Springfield, was arrested on multiple drug trafficking and possession charges at 5:23 p.m. Saturday after police stopped him on Hampton Terrace for speeding.

Police Sgt. William Kelly said an officer noticed drugs in plain sight in Crosby’s car and after searching it found “a plethora of drugs,” including over 500 packets of heroin, and about $500 cash. Crosby was charged with trafficking methamphetamine, possession with intent to distribute a Class A drug (heroin), possession of a Class B drug (cocaine and crack cocaine), and possession of Class C drug (hallucinogenic mushrooms).


■ Barry Brian Brooks Jr., 42, Springfield, was arrested at 5:54 p.m. Saturday on Belchertown Road on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol (second offense), operating a motor vehicle to endanger and failure to use care in passing after the car he was driving passed a police car very closely, police said.

■ Oswaldo Alejandro Henriquez-Castro, 18, of 693 Main St., Apt. 3, was arrested at 10:27 a.m. Saturday at Wentworth Manor Drive on a charge of breaking and entering a vehicle in the nighttime.

■ Matthew Carini, 21, of Franklin, was arrested at 11:52 p.m. Friday on North Pleasant Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, possessing an open container, marked lanes violation, assault and battery on a police officer and destruction of property after the car he was driving went over the Eastman Lane rotary and hit a traffic sign, police said. During the booking process, he became uncooperative and aggressive and kicked an officer, police said.


■ Joshua W. Dilley, 28, of Ware, was arrested at 9:24 a.m. Saturday on State Street on charges of larceny over $250 and trespassing with a motor vehicle.

■ James R. Pepoon, 40, of 18 Helen Drive, was arrested at 1:55 a.m. Friday on Daniel Shays Highway and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.


■ Joel Santiago, 23, of Hartford, Conn., was arrested at 2:22 a.m. Monday on Holyoke Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and failing to dim his lights.

■ Jeffrey S. Morrison, 41, of 9 Water Lane, Apt. A, was arrested at 11:01 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Hisgen and Taft avenues on a charge of disorderly conduct.

■ Ralph J. Lyman, 53, of 22 Pleasant St., was arrested in the Union Street Plaza at 11 p.m. Saturday on charge of assault and battery after a police officer allegedly saw him punch another man.

Police said Lyman’s girlfriend, Maria Diaz, 43, of the same address, then was out of control and combative and was arrested on charges of resisting arrest, disturbing the peace and disorderly conduct.

■ Police arrested Lidia S. Lech, 32, of 8 Oak Ave., Hatfield, and Joseph Challet, 30, of 315 Northwest Road, Westhampton, on warrants after a motor vehicle stop on East Street at 10:38 p.m. Saturday.

■ Keith Whittle, 27, of Westfield, was arrested at 9 p.m. Saturday during the Easthampton fireworks at Daley Field on a warrant.

■ William E. Boyle Jr., 58, of 34 New South St., Apt. A, Northampton, was arrested at 7:43 p.m. Friday on Lord Street on charges of operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and speeding.


■ Raymond Gregory Conniff, 53, of 16 North Maple St., Florence, was arrested at 7:56 p.m. Sunday on Main Street on a charge of trespassing.

■ Evelyn M. Donnis, 56, of 82 Williston Ave., Easthampton, was arrested at 4:11 p.m. Sunday at Wal-Mart on North King Street on a charge of shoplifting over $100.

■ Michael LeBlanc, 27, of Danville, N.H., was arrested at 2:54 a.m. Sunday on King Street on charges of disorderly conduct and possessing a Class B drug (cocaine) after officers responded to a report of an argument, police said.

■ Michael E. Willard, 52, whose address is listed as the streets of Northampton, was arrested at 4:33 p.m. Saturday on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon after allegedly threatening another man with a knife, according to police.

■ Darcy R. Clifford, 29, of 2 Conz St., Apt. 10, Northampton, was arrested at 2:15 a.m. Saturday on Masonic Street on charges of possessing a Class D drug (marijuana) with intent to distribute and possessing a Class B drug (Adderall).

■ Kenya Sorrell, 27, of Springfield, was arrested at 5:36 p.m. Friday on North King Street on charges of shoplifting by concealing merchandise (second offense) and receiving stolen property under $250 after allegedly leaving Wal-Mart with $95 worth of baby formula.

A passenger in the same car as Sorrell, Sandra Kay Webster, 45, also of Springfield, was arrested on a charge of possessing a Class B drug (cocaine).
