Wednesday's colleges: Kellen Pagel gives UMass baseball 10-inning win over Hartford

Former University of Massachusetts quarterback Kellen Pagel picked up his first career RBI with a bases loaded walk-off single in the 10th inning as the baseball team beat Hartford 4-3 in 10 innings in Amherst.

Pagel was 2-for-2 for UMass (9-18), which has won four straight.


Amherst 10, MCLA 2 (5); Amherst 4, MCLA 1 — Reilly Horan went a combined 5-for-6 with four doubles and surpassed the 100-RBI mark for her career in the sweep for the Lord Jeffs (21-9).

Smith College 3, Elms 0 — Gina Martuci struck out nine and scattered five hits for the Pioneers (8-19) in Chicopee.

Women’s tennis

Amherst 8, Bates 1 — The top-ranked Lord Jeffs (13-1, 6-0) remained unbeaten against Division III teams with the win at home.

Women’s rowing

The University of Massachusetts Varsity 8+ crew dropped its 2,000-meter race to UConn Wednesday on the Connecticut. The Huskies finished in 6 minutes, 14.37 seconds. UMass finished in 6:17.94.

The Minutewomen’s Varsity 4+ won in 6:55.12.
