ON THE RISE

One of the best things about living in this area is the chance to see work by students trained in arts-related programs at the Five Colleges. Among the finest of those departments is the Smith College master’s degree program in dance. This weekend, four students will present “dénouement,” a dance concert that represents the culmination of their work at Smith. Today and Saturday, 8 p.m., Theatre 14, at the college. www.smith.edu/smitharts

ANOTHER GOOD BET

Maybe it’s a trickle-down effect, but area high school students are also producing fine artistic work. For the past two weeks, students at Northampton High School have been performing Georges Feydeau’s comedy “The Lady of Maxim’s” in the school’s new Black Box Theater. Tonight’s the last chance to see the play that the students produced, directed and star in. 7 p.m. $10; $5 for students, seniors.
