AMHERST – University of Massachusetts sophomore center Cady Lalanne was arrested following an on-campus event Saturday. He was suspended indefinitely and won’t play in Tuesday’s game against Northeastern ( 7 p.m. Matthews Arena).

UMass coach Derek Kellogg read a statement to the media before practice.

“Cady Lalanne is going to be suspended to a violation of athletic department policy for his conduct at an on-campus function Saturday night,” Kellogg said. “Right now it’s indefinitely. He will not be making the trip to Boston tonight and playing right now. … We’ll continue to monitor the situation and make a decision over the next few days or so.”

According to the UMass police log, Lalanne was arrested for “disorderly conduct, assault and battery on a police officer and resisting a ploice officer making a lawful arrest.”

Lalanne, who is averaging 4.8 points and 5.2 rebounds, was also suspended for the Minutemen’s exhibition game for a team rules violation.

Kellogg said he hadn’t decided whether sophomore Maxie Esho or junior Sampson Carter would replace Lalanne in the starting lineup.“Maxie or Sampson. I think Sampson has done a good job in his minutes. Maxie’s done a great job in his minutes,” Kellogg said. “The reality is I do like Maxie coming off the bench because of his energy, but Sampson’s done some good things. I think we’ll be able to run a little bit more with those lineups.”

Kellogg said that Lalanne’s absence would mean more time for two of his freshmen, guard Trey Davis and big man Tyler Bergantino.“It’ll give the young guys an opportunity to get some minutes. Trey has earned the opportunity to play. Maybe we’ll go smaller and run a little bit more,” Kellogg said. “Tyler has done some good things in practice. … Because of the way the schedule has been laid out I haven’t had the chance to get those guys in. Now I’m being forced to, which might be a good thing down the line.”
