David Eaton Elder

CHARLESTON, S.C. - David Eaton Elder, 79, of Charleston, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at the Hospice Center of Charleston.

Born in Springfield, Mass., he was the son of the late Harold M. Elder and the late Mary E. Eaton.

Dave lived in New England for much of his life, moving to Charleston with his partner, Jane A. Nolan, in 1997.

Dave was educated at Dartmouth College and earned an MBA from Plymouth State University. He worked in retail management for his entire career, with his final position as a management consultant.

Dave loved to travel, starting with a solo European trip during his college years, later taking numerous trips abroad with Jane, and ending with a trip to China with his son.

Dave was a member of the Unitarian Church of Charleston, acting as a docent and, for a time, church historian.

Dave is survived by his partner, Jane A. Nolan; brother, Tom Elder; former wife, Sandra Montgomery Elder; sons, Stephen, Daniel and Matthew; and four grandchildren.

A private celebration of Dave's Life will be held in Charleston. His interment will be in his hometown of Amherst, Mass.
