The Bill of Rights Defense Committee is hosting a reception to celebrate 10 years of fighting for people's rights Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Northampton Center for the Arts, 17 New South St.

Guest speakers include Chris Pyle, Mount Holyoke College professor, government whistle-blower, former counsel to the Church Committee; Falguni Sheth, Hampshire College professor, author of "Toward a Political Philosophy of Race"; William Newman with the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts and host of "The Bill Newman Show" on WHMP; and Nancy Talanian, founder of BORDC and No More Guantanamos.

The event will also feature "COINTELPRO 2.0," a short film about the expansion of surveillance over the past decade. Refreshments will be provided. The event is free and open to the public; donations are encouraged.

The Bill of Rights Defense Committee is a national nonprofit grassroots organization formed in 2001 to defend the rule of law and rights and liberties challenged by over-broad national security and counter-terrorism policies. For more information, visit www.bordc.org or call 582-0110.
