AMHERST — An Amherst man who led police on a brief pursuit — terminated when his vehicle approached 100 mph — was taken into custody after crashing his vehicle near the north roundabout on West Street early Saturday morning, police said.

Graham Simon Klemme, 29, of 23 Autumn Lane, was arrested at 2:10 a.m. on charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, second offense, negligent operation of a motor vehicle to endanger, failure to stop for police and speeding, police said.

Klemme was initially observed traveling on West Street and Kamins Circle, but took off. Police pursued his vehicle past the Pomeroy village center until speeds got excessive.

The 2009 Honda Fit that Klemme was driving was towed from the scene.
