Local sports: Amherst Mantle beats Frontier; MSTCA names Davis, Palmer WMass coaches of the year

Logan Dapprich allowed three hits and helped himself with two hits as the Amherst Mickey Mantle baseball team beat Frontier, 3-0, Saturday in Amherst.

Dapprich struck out four and walked four over six innings. Judah Katz fanned one for the save.

Dapprich scored once and had two steals. Owen Toal (hit, walk, RBI, run) had one of almost everything as well as two steals. Katz walked three times and scored once.

Ryan Campbell (walk) and Sam Dadmon each had a hit for Frontier (1-1).

High schools

The Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association held its annual banquet, Sunday at The Lantana in Randolph.

South Hadley coach Nick Davis was named the western Mass. coach of the year for indoor track after his Tigers won the PVIAC girls indoor championship for the first time.

Northampton coach Brandon Palmer was named the western Mass. coach of the year for outdoor track after his Blue Devils won the boys District F&G Division 1 championship.


Northampton softball player Jenna Subocz was incorrectly identified in Saturday’s Gazette. Subocz hit a game-tying RBI double with out in the sixth inning then scored on Katelyn Ramdath’s single as Northampton beat East Longmeadow, 4-3, in the Western Massachusetts Division 1 Tournament.
