Wednesday’s colleges: Springfield spikes Amherst

The Amherst College women’s volleyball team lost its season opener to Springfield, 3-1, Wednesday on the road.

The Mammoths won the opening set 25-20, but then lost the next three 21-25, 17-25 and 13-25.

Daria Kim-Percy led Amherst with 11 kills while Charlotte Duran had 12 digs and 23 assists.

Bridgewater State 3, Elms 0 — Hannah Adams (Deerfield) had nine kills but the Blazers fell on the road.

Women’s soccer

Elms 1, Eastern Connecticut 0 — Kelsey Shea (Belchertown) scored as the Blazers beat the Warriors for the first time ever.

Kayla Labrecque (Westhampton) made two saves in defeat.

Westfield State 1, Castleton 1 (2OT) — Kiley Baron made four saves in 20 minutes as the host Spartans earned the draw in Vermont.
