The challenges keep coming, but Belchertown Post 239 continues to thwart all comers in the American Legion Senior Division.

Visiting Westfield held Post 239 to just three hits on Friday night, but Beau Elson smacked a home run and the pitching combo of Brady Perkins and Jake Waller wiggled though several jams to keep their team undefeated. Belchertown held on for a 3-2 victory at Belchertown High School, improving to a perfect 13-0 on the season.

Elson drove in two with his long ball, helping Belchertown take a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Patrick Fitzgibbons also had an RBI in the win, as Post 239 also scored in the bottom of the third to make it a 3-1 game at the time.

Westfield clawed back with a run in the top of the fourth, but Perkins (3ip, 3ks) and Waller (4ip, 5ks) kept the visitors off the board the rest of the way to keep Post 239 atop the Senior Division standings with an unblemished record.

Cody West also had a hit for Belchertown, which was outhit 11-3 on the night.

Belchertown will host Greenfield on Sunday in the continuation of a suspended game from earlier this season.

Northampton Post 28 7, North Adams Post 125 3 – Another fast start for Post 28 proved fruitful.

The visitors scored five runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 7-3 win at Joe Wolfe Field in North Adams on Friday night.
