Habitat for Humanity to build home in Shutesbury

SHUTESBURY — Pioneer Valley Habitat for Humanity is seeking people interested in owning a three-bedroom home that will be built on land being cleared in Shutesbury.

An information session about the home, which will sell for $175,000 or less and be constructed next spring, will be held Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Shutesbury Elementary School, 23 West Pelham Road. 

Applications from those who meet the income guideline of earning at or below 60 percent of area median income, adjusted for family size, are due Jan. 17. For a one-person family, the maximum income is $37,275, increasing to $42,600 for two people and $53,213 for four people. 

Additional information sessions will be held at the Jones Library, 43 Amity St., Amherst, on Dec. 7 and Jan. 11, both at 10:30 a.m.

Selection criteria also will include housing need, ability to make mortgage payments of $700 to $1,200 per month and willingness to partner with Habitat, such as participating in the construction of the home and other Habitat projects. At least 250 hours of volunteer construction hours will be required.
