HADLEY — An active shooter response training exercise involving several police and fire departments and other emergency responders takes place at Hampshire Mall between 6 and 10 a.m. Saturday.

Members of both the Hadley Police and Hadley Fire departments, as well as mall employees, will be part of the exercise that completes ongoing training and planning.

The training is being coordinated by Emergency Response Consulting, LLC of North Adams and Close Range Tactical Consultants of Boston using a $50,000 grant from the Commonwealth Security Trust Fund awarded through the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security.

“The drill is just one aspect of training that has been happening for several months,” Amalio Jusino, president of Emergency Response Consulting, said in an email.

Jusino said about 10 agencies will be on hand.

The grant was request was made through collaboration with the Hampshire Regional Emergency Planning Committee and the town of Hadley.

During this training, certain areas of the mall will be off limits.

The training comes before most mall stores are open for the day, as well as on the first day of the Amherst Winters Farmers Market, which will run in the Target corridor from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
