■Strayed from the meadows in Northampton, near the middle of Nov., a bay horse, about 12 years old — ears cut off close to his head — one white hind foot. Whoever will return said horse to Oliver Warner’s tavern in Northampton, or Ebenezer Clapp’s in Chesterfield, shall be reasonably compensated. — Malachi Ewell.

■Mrs. Calvin Coolidge left Washington today for Boston to attend ceremonies there incident to the installation of the first dean of women of Boston University. Mrs. Coolidge is to receive an honorary degree from the university.
■Over 100 persons are registered and taking the free city-wide swimming course being given at the YMCA this week by “Jack” Manning, the former M.I.T. crew coach, who is now engaged as a swimming instructor for the Massachusetts Humane Society.
■Christmas for underprivileged children in the area will be more joyful this year than in the past because of a toy collection effort being sponsored by the Northampton High School student body and the Northampton Kiwanis Club. New and used Christmas toys are being collected by high school students for distribution to underprivileged youngsters.
■Members of the Three County Fair Association has voted to approved harness racing at the fair’s track. The motivation for the decision was the prospect of increased revenue. In the past few years, the association has been unable to raise enough money to make necessary improvements or enlarge the fair’s facilities.
