Northampton man arrested in connection with pedestrian fatality on Route 2 in Shelburne

SHELBURNE — Police have arrested a Northampton man in connection with a crash that killed a pedestrian on Route 2 in Shelburne at around 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

The pedestrian, a 45-year-old Shelburne Falls resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Northwestern district attorney’s office. She had been walking with a friend.

Police arrested a 51-year-old Northampton man in connection with the crash. An arraignment will be scheduled for either Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday in Greenfield District Court.

The names of the victim and the suspect are not being released at this time, according to Laurie Loisel, a spokeswoman for the DA’s office.

The crash is under investigation by Massachusetts State Police troopers assigned to the Northwestern district attorney’s office as well as the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death.
