Roster/Injury Updates for Week 5

I'll do this a little differently this week. Along with updating Tues-Thurs with whatever big nuggets come out, I'll post a link to the NFL's entire injury report when it is released Wednesday. That way, you'll be able to check on your RB's O-Line, your team defense's starting LB and everything else. I'll still pull out the biggest stuff and post it with the Friday extras. Check back for updates in italics at the bottom of the post.

UPDATED: WEDNESDAY, 12:38 A.M.; THURSDAY, 12 A.M. (SEE BOTTOM)

ESPN is reporting that Charles Rogers (DET-WR) will be suspended for four games for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Looks like Jabar Gaffney (HOU-WR) is now the No. 2 wide receiver for the Texans, not Corey Bradford (HOU-WR). With that offense, it shouldn't matter in all but the deepest fantasy leagues.

The Bucs are saying that they're not sure if Cadillac Williams (TB-RB) will play this week.

Bubba Franks (GB-TE) did not play in Monday's game. Not sure what his status is for next week.

UPDATED: Wednesday
I'll be back later to post the link to the NFL Injury Report when it is released, but there were a few things worth mentioning beforehand.

Alex Smith (SF-QB) will start this week for the 49ers. Never, ever start a rookie QB in his first NFL game.
If you are in a QB bind this week, consider Josh McCown (ARZ-QB) against Carolina. I don't think he'll post similar numbers as he did Sunday against the 49ers, but he should be adequate at worst.

The injuries to Chad Pennington (NYJ-QB) and Jay Fiedler (NYJ-QB) have turned Laveranues Coles (NYJ-WR) from strong fantasy starter to fantasy backup in a hurry.

UPDATED: THURSDAY

Here is the link to the NFL's Injury Report, which was listed later than I expected this week. You can find the complete list HERE. I'll break down the report in the Friday Extras post that will run with my column.

Also, it looks like Vinny Testaverde (NYJ-QB) is going to start for the Jets this week and the rumor is that J.P. Losman (BUF-QB) will not start this weekend. Instead, it will be Kelly Holcomb (BUF-QB). If that is confirmed, Holcomb is a much better fantasy option than Losman was as a starter and his ability in the passing game could open things up even more for Willis McGahee (BUF-RB). Should be interesting.

See you Friday with the Extras.
