Friday’s colleges: Lindsey Webster powers UMass softball team past Saint Joseph’s

Lindsey Webster’s two-run home run in the seventh inning propelled the University of Massachusetts softball team past Saint Joseph’s 2-1 in Philadelphia Friday.

Caroline Raymond struck out four, walked four and worked around seven hits for the Minutewomen (15-19, 9-4 Atlantic 10).

Keen State 5, Amherst 3; Amherst 15, Keene State 10 — Kaitlin Silkowitz had four hits and scored four runs as the Lord Jeffs (24-12) split a doubleheader in Keene, N.H.

Caroline Sealander finished 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored, while Reilly Horan and Brianna Cook had three hits apiece for Amherst, which closed its regular season.

Baseball

Saint Joseph’s 7, UMass 4 (12) — Andrew Grant struck out 13, walked five and allowed four runs on three hits but the Minutemen (9-23, 3-10 Atlantic 10) fell at home.

Ryan Cusick, Rob McLam and Vinny Scifo each had two hits in the loss.

Wesleyan 2, Amherst 1 — Bob Cook struck out six and allowed two runs on six hits but the Lord Jeffs (19-7, 8-2 NESCAC) fell on the road.

Nolan Stewart had two hits in the loss.

Sam Goodwin-Boyd, of Northampton, had a hit and RBI for the Cardinals (20-12-1, 8-2).

Vanderbilt 3, Mississippi State 1 — Kevin Ziomek, of Amherst, struck out nine, walked three and allowed four hits over seven innings as the third-ranked Commodores (37-6, 17-2 SEC) beat the 12-ranked Bulldogs (33-11, 10-9) in Nashville, Tenn.
