Friday’s colleges: UMass women’s lacrosse breezes past St. Bonaventure
Even with University of Massachusetts leading scorer Katie Ferris sitting out, the St. Bonaventure women’s lacrosse team was no match for the Minutewomen.
UMass scored the game’s first 11 goals and cruised a 19-2 win on the road Friday.
The victory was the Minutewomen’s 26th consecutive win over Atlantic 10 opponents, a conference record.
UMass (14-2, 6-0 A-10) will face Duquesne (10-5, 5-1) for the regular season title, Sunday at noon.
With Ferris resting, Nicole Troost led UMass with three goals, while Cori Murray added two goals and two assists.
La Salle 17, UMass 5 — The Explorers took an 11-1 lead after five innings as the Minutemen couldn’t keep up.
Rob McLam (two runs, RBI), Adam Picard (two RBI) and Ben Panunzio (run) each had two hits for the Minutemen (9-19, 3-7 Atlantic 10).
Wesleyan 5, Amherst College 2 — The Cardinals scored three times in the first and the Jeffs couldn’t catch up.
Kelsey Ayres and Reilly Horan each had a hit and drove in a run for Amherst (21-10, 3-7 NESCAC).
WPI 4, Smith College 3; WPI 2, Smith 1 — Tori Brown, Edie Richardson and Joanna Giordano each had a hit in Game 1, while Caroline Kushner, Brittany Purington and Tessa Clark had hits in Game 2 for the Pioneers (8-21).
UMass 4, George Washington 2 — The No. 3-seeded Minutewomen won singles matches No. 3-No. 6 to earn the necessary four points to advance past the No. 6 Colonials in the Atlantic 10 tournament.
UMass will play No. 2 Xavier, Saturday at 1 p.m.
