Former University of Massachusetts standout Doug Clark had a memorable Friday morning.

The Springfield native hit a game-winning home run in the top of the 18th inning as Yaquis de Obregon of Mexico beat Escogido Leones of the Dominican Republic 4-3 to win the Caribbean Series championship in Hermosillo, Mexico.

The game started Thursday and finished in a record 7 hours, 28 minutes. Clark was named series MVP.

Clark is a 15-year minor league veteran. The 36-year-old Cathedral graduate played football and baseball at UMass. He was drafted in the seventh round of the 1998 draft and played 14 major league games between the Giants and Oakland Athletics.
