UMass hockey ties Maine 2-2
The University of Massachusetts hockey team rallied to tie Maine 2-2 Friday night in Orono, Maine.
The Black Bears took a 2-0 lead in the first period.
Steven Guzzo scored a power-play goal from Troy Power and Colin Shea in the second, and Conor Allen scored with 1 minute, 8 seconds left to force overtime.
Rocco Carzo and Conor Sheary assisted Allen.
Kevin Boyle made 27 saves for UMass (3-4-1, 2-4-1 Hockey East). Martin Ouellette stopped 30 for Maine (2-9-1, 1-5-1).
Women’s basketball
Castleton State 64, Regis College 51 — Alyssa Leonard of Amherst had 17 points, 11 rebounds and four steals as the Spartans advanced to Saturday’s 3 p.m. championship in the Westfield State Tip-Off.
Castleton plays Westfield State.
Westfield State 56, Drew 40 — Forbasaw Nkamebo of Amherst had 10 points and nine rebounds off the bench as the Owls advanced to play Castleton State in Saturday’s 3 p.m. final of the Westfield State Tip-Off.
Mount Holyoke 70, Mount Ida 44 — Amber Legare and Angelica Pascual each had 21 points as the Lyons advanced to Saturday’s 3 p.m. final of the Keene State Tip-Off.
Quinnipiac 81, UMass 72 —Rashida Timbilla had 17 points, nine rebounds and four assists, and Jasmine Watson added 17 points and eight rebounds but the Minutewomen (1-2) fell at home.
Men’s basketball
Amherst 89, Newbury 74 — Willy Workman of Northampton scored 19 points and added 10 rebounds as the Lord Jeffs (1-0) won their opener at home.
Swimming & diving
Mount Holyoke 120, Trinity 114 — Rachel Boynton of Northampton swam on the winning 400-meter medley relay as the Lyons (2-1) won on the road.
