UMass women’s basketball falls at Central Connecticut
The University of Massachusetts women’s basketball team dropped their first road game of the season, 78-69 to Central Connecticut Tuesday.
UMass opened the second half with a 24-7 run to take a 46-39 lead. However, the Blue Devils recovered and took a 64-60 lead with 1 minutes, 34 seconds left.
That’s as close as the Minutewomen (1-1) got as CCSU (2-0) used late free throws to seal the win.
Emily Mital had 22 points with six 3-pointers for UMass. Jasmine Watson had 16 points, 10 rebounds and five blocked shots for her 14th career double-double. Rashida Timbilla had 10 rebounds and four steals in the loss.
Jaclyn Babe had 36 points and seven steals for the Blue Devils.
Smith College 133, Elms 101 — Emily Clark, Ariel Orr, Alyssa Pascuzzo and Hayley Bezubka opened the meet with a win in the 200--meter medley relay and the Pioneers (1-1) never looked back en route to the win in Chicopee.
Olivia Bannon of Amherst won the 200 breaststroke for Smith.
Stephanie Tobin of Williamsburg won the 200 IM, while Abigail Wingfield of Northampton was on the winning 400 free relay for the Blazers (1-3).
Tessa Dudunake of Northampton was second in the 50 free for Elms.
