Moa Mattsson lifts Minutewomen to win

After 63 minutes of scoreless play, Moa Mattsson finally found the back of the net and the University of Massachusetts women's soccer team defeated Siena 1-0 at Rudd Field on Sunday.

Jess Howe served a Saints' clear attempt and found Alyssa D'Arcy in the box. D'Arcy slid the ball to Mattsson, who scored her fifth goal of the season for the Minutewomen (5-5).

Emily Cota made five saves for her third shutout of the season and 19th of her career.

Amherst 2, Hamilton 0; Amherst 0, Middlebury 0 - Amanda Brisco had a goal and an assist in the win Saturday at home.

Holly Burwick made one save Saturday and then seven in Sunday's draw in Middlebury, Vt., as Amherst increased its shutout streak to five.

Mount Holyoke 2, Coast Guard 0 - Hannah Yee of Amherst had a goal and an assist as the Lyons (1-5-1, 1-1 NEWMAC) earned their first win of the season at home Saturday.

Mackenzie Randall made nine saves for Mount Holyoke.

Elms 1, Regis 1 - Carmen Marino of Granby scored a goal for the Blazers (1-5-1, 0-0-1 NECC) in the tie Saturday in Weston.

Westfield State 3, Fitchburg State 0 - Sarah Sypek of Westhampton scored a goal as the Owls (8-0-1, 2-0 MASCAC) won Saturday in Fitchburg.

Field hockey

Albany 3, UMass 2 - The No. 21 Great Danes converted a penalty shot with 26 seconds left to earn the win in Amherst.

Lindsay Bowman and Nicole Cordero scored in the loss for the No. 25 Minutewomen (4-6).

Amherst 5, Hamilton 0; Middlebury 3, Amherst 1 - Krista Zsitvay and Katie McMahon each scored twice as the Lord Jeffs won Saturday at home.

McMahon then scored the lone goal for Amherst (5-1, 2-1 NESCAC) in Sunday's loss in Middlebury, Vt.

Springfield 7, Smith 3 - Sophie Demuynck, Alexas DeJesus and Allie Stein recorded one goal each for the Pioneers (3-4, 0-2 NEWMAC) at home Saturday.

Salem State 4, Worcester State 2 - Michaela Boyer of South Hadley recorded two saves as the Vikings (6-1, 2-1 Little East) won Saturday in Worcester.

Men's soccer

UMass 2, Dartmouth 0 - Zach Miller and Peter Alvarenga scored goals as the Minutemen (3-3-2) blanked the Big Green at Rudd Field on Saturday.

Brian Frame made six saves for UMass, which posted its third shutout in four games.

Amherst 2, Middlebury 0 - Jae Heo and James Mooney each netted goals as Lord Jeffs (5-0, 3-0 NESCAC) earned the shutout Sunday in Middlebury, Vt.

Goalkeeper Thomas Bull did not record a save for Amherst.

Skidmore 3, Amherst 0 - Nicole Carter had 30 assists and Lizzie Ahern posted 10 kills, but the Lord Jeffs (5-3) fell at home 25-23, 25-16, 25-23 at home Saturday.

Mount Holyoke 3, Elms 0; Connecticut College 3, Mount Holyoke 0 - Martina Kneifel posted 14 kills as the Lyons (2-5, 0-3 NEWMAC) earned a split at home Saturday.

Women's golf

- Liz Monty of Amherst College carded a two-day total of 148 (73-75) to win the individual title at the Mount Holyoke Invitational in South Hadley over the weekend.

Women's cross country

- Amherst College's Keri Lambert, an Amherst native, finished second in the Purple Valley Invitational at home Saturday, posting a time of 21:55 over six kilometers. The Lord Jeffs finished sixth out of 15 teams.

- Smith's Danielle Opatovsky finished ninth with a time of 19:45.30 as the Pioneers finished third Saturday at the Wesleyan Invitational in Middletown, Conn.

Men's cross country

- Gettysburg College's Tyler Keith of Florence finished 32nd overall (30:10) over eight kilometers at the Frostburg State University Invitational on Saturday in Frostburg, Md. The team placed fourth overall.

Women's tennis

Babson 9, Smith 0 - The Pioneers (0-2, 0-2 NEWMAC) were swept by the Beavers (5-0, 2-0) on Saturday in Babson Park.

Mount Holyoke opened its season with a first-place finish at the Preseason Tournament of Champions Horse Show on Saturday in Baltimore, Md.
