Belchertown scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to defeat Northampton 5-2 in the Little League 9/10-year-old District 2 tournament championship at McDonald Field Monday.

Colby Masse, Tyler Laramee and Austin Endelos each singled in the fifth for Belchertown (5-1) before Zack Jenks blasted a triple.

Endelos pitched five innings for Belchertown, striking out nine and allowing one earned run on four hits.

Belchertown scored twice in the first inning. Masse led off with a double to left and stole third. He then scored on a bunt single from Laramee. Laramee later scored on a wild pitch.

Tommy O’Connor tossed 41∕3 strong innings for Northampton (5-1). He allowed two runs and struck out 10 before reaching his pitching limit.

O’Connor also scored the only two runs for Northampton. He singled in the top of the first inning and crossed the plate on a fielder’s choice. He then singled in the top of the fifth and scored on an infield hit by Gavin Bullock.

Zack O’Boyle and Jaxson Venne also had hits for Northampton.

Little League (13/14)

Southampton 7, Gateway 5 — Ben Fitzpatrick had a two-run double as Southampton won the Division 2 championship.

Garrett Kowal hit a home run while Erik Trotman had a single for Southampton (5-0).

Matt Hewes went 1-for-3 for Gateway.

Little League (11/12)

Westfield North 9, Northampton 0 — Dillon Diemand, Zack Houle and Doug Pierce each had a hit for Northampton (2-1) in the loss at LaRiviere Field.

Southampton 11, Longmeadow 4 — Jackson Heath went 3-for-4 with three singles and a run scored in the road win.

Jacob Labrie struck out four and added two singles with a run scored.

Matt Hurd scored twice and Nick Eline once for Southampton (2-2).

Amherst 3, Easthampton 2 — Josh GerberDolan scored a run and stole a base for Amherst (1-2) in the win at home.

Jack Spence added a hit for Amherst (1-2).

Dawson Wolcott had a triple and scored a run while Drew Caires had a hit and an RBI for Easthampton (1-2).

Tyler Karakula had eight strikeouts for Easthampton.

Mickey Mantle

Frontier 8, Northampton 7 — Drew Castronovo had two hits and Bailey Powers (1-for-3) drove in a pair as Frontier (4-6) held on at home.

Cody Cleveland and Cole Burdell each went 1-for-2 with an RBI.

Luke Bakker earned the win with six innings of work. He struck out five and also added a double at the plate. Matt Ackerman tossed a scoreless seventh for the save.

For Northampton, Chris Soderberg went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while Hunter Salem was 2-for-4.

Amherst 3, South Hadley 1 — Django Ellenhorn allowed just two hits and one (unearned) run as Amherst (9-2-1) won on the road.

He struck out six and walked four. Zach Kelley had three hits and drove in a run for Amherst.

Cal Ripken (10U)

Hadley 13, Pepperell 8 — Chris Mushenski went 2-for-2 with three RBIs and four pitchers combined to pitch Hadley to a win in the state tournament quarterfinals Monday.

Hadley went 3-0 in pool play this weekend. Hadley beat Sutton 11-0 and Northbridge 5-1 Saturday and Ayer-Shirley 14-0 Sunday.

Cal Ripken (9U)

Northampton 10, Frontier 9 — Northampton rallied with four runs in the sixth inning to win the District 2 championship Monday.

Matt Sawyer’s RBI single to left capped a five-hit sixth for Hamp.

Nate Kelleger Mochak pitched two perfect innnigs for the win.

On Sunday, Northampton beat Frontier 7-3 in eight innings.

On Saturday, Northampton fell 6-4 to Frontier and beat Hadley 10-7.

Bay State Games Softball

West 5, Central 2 — Madeline Spencer-Orrell of Northampton picked up the win in the Games opener Monday at the Veterans Memorial Athletic Complex in Waltham.

Rebecca Carkhuff of Amherst had an RBI single in the victory.

Spencer-Orrell, a rising junior at Smith Vocational, went the first five innings, allowing one run on three hits and no walks while striking out three.

The West, which is coached by Hopkins Academy coach Fred Roach, plays three games on Tuesday, starting at 9 a.m. in Waltham.

Boys basketball

Metro 98, West 94 — Cam Earle of South Hadley scored a team-high 15 points, but the West fell in the bronze medal game Sunday at the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston.

Metro 94, West 84 — Hatfield residents Kevan Lord (16 points) and Derek McMahon (13) each reached double digits in the loss Saturday.

Wrestling

Hampshire Regional rising junior Brendan Weir earned third place in the 126-pound weight class in the Scholastic Division on Saturday at UMass-Boston.

Weir is a two-time state Division 3 champion.
