Summer baseball: Hadley faces Greenfield in Cal Ripken District 2 championship

The Hadley 10-under Cal Ripken baseball team will face Greenfield at 6 p.m. Monday at McDonald Field in Northampton in the District 2 Tournament championship.

Hadley beat Frontier 14-3 Sunday and Greenfield 7-3 Saturday to advance.

Greenfield beat Northampton Sunday in the double-elimination tournament to advance.

Hadley had 16 hits in three innings to beat Frontier. Justin Masteralexis and Thea Hanscom combined on a three-hitter for Hadley.

Noah Scanlon-Dean struck out 10 and scattered five hits over five innings against Greenfield. Hanscom worked a perfect sixth to finish the game.

Chris Mushenski, Scanlon-Dean and Nick Foster each two hits and two runs scored for Hadley.

American Legion

Pettengill Insurance 2, Aldenville 0 — Scott Bicknell broke up Mike Bombard’s no-hitter in the fourth to pace Pettengill (6-5) Sunday.

Bicknell finished 2-for-3 with a double. Matt Beauchemin struck out 13 and walked two in the complete-game win. Beauchemin also went 2-for-3 with an RBI.

King & Cushman 20, Belchertown 0 — Sam Walker struck out five over seven innings for Northampton King & Cushman Post 28 (5-3) Sunday.

Christian Smiarowski went 2-for-3 and scored two runs. Keith Natale had three hits, while David Longstreeth, RJ Ramsden and Steve Golonka each had two.

Belchertown fell to 0-12.

Easthampton 5, Longmeadow 3 — Chris Starcun had a two-run double in the third inning for Easthampton (4-7) Sunday.

Austin Crow struck out eight and walked one over seven innings for the win. Alan Gormley had two hits and two RBIs for Easthampton, while Nick Batchelder (RBI, run) contributed two hits.

Palmer 11, Amherst 4 — Tim Pruner went 3-for-3 and Ethan Wenner went 1-for-3 with an RBI for Amherst (2-8) Sunday.

Mickey Mantle

Frontier 6, South Haldey 4 (9) — Matt Ackerman struck out five over four innings for the win Sunday.

Ackerman also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and three stolen bases for Frontier (3-5).

Bailey Powers and Austin Rogers each had two RBIs for Frontier.

South Hadley is 0-9.

Tri-County

Teddy Bear Pools 9, DiFranco 3 — Tory Buck had two hits and three RBIs as Teddy Bear (5-7) won on the road Sunday.

Brad Bean added a hit and two RBIs, while Jon Atkins struck out six and walked three over 52∕3 innings for the win.

PeoplesBank 9, Easthampton Savings Bank 6 — Northampton native Joe Popielarczyk struck out nine and worked around 10 hits in the complete-game win for PeoplesBank (9-2) Sunday.

Drew Dombkowski went 4-for-4 with two homers, two singles and three RBIs for Easthampton (2-6).

Kyle Grumoli was 3-for-4 with an RBI in the loss.

Metro Softball

Easthampton 5, Springfield 0 — Caelin Mottor allowed one hit and struck out five in the first game of a doubleheader for Easthampton. Kelly Avard went 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Haley McFarland went 1-for-2.

Easthampton 15, Springfield 9 — Mottor got the win in relief in the second game for Easthampton (7-0). Abby Edgin was 2-for-3 and Mel Fasoli was 3-for-5 with two RBIs.

Amherst 5, Chicopee 1 — Ali LeClair struck out five over seven innings in a win for Amherst in the first game of a doubleheader.

Jazzy Moonstone went 4-for-4 with an RBI and Allyssa Ouellette went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Chicopee 8, Amherst 3 — Amherst (3-3) committed seven errors in the sixth inning and fell in the second game.

Moonstone had two hits for Amherst, and Cassie Long contributed three hits.
