Kevin Ziomek to start for Connecticut Tigers Saturday

Amherst native Kevin Ziomek will make his first professional start Saturday.

Ziomek was assigned this week to the Connecticut Tigers of the New York-Penn League. The Tigers are playing the Tri-City ValleyCats, an affiliate of the Houston Astros, in Troy, N.Y.

The teams will play a seven-inning doubleheader Saturday following Friday’s rainout. Game 1 is at 5:30 p.m. Ziomek will start Game 2.

“I’m fired up to get out and get my first pro appearance,” Ziomek said.


Teddy Bear Pools 1, Wilbraham Funeral Home 0 — Joey Larson struck out two, walked nine and scattered two hits in a complete-game effort for Teddy Bear Pools in South Deerfield.

Brad Bean had two hits, including a double, and scored for TBP (4-7).

Nick Marscher added one RBI in the win.
