Monday’s high school lacrosse/volleyball: Holyoke Catholic turns back Cathedral

Lexie Neffinger scored six goals and goalie Katie Klejna turned aside 13 shots for the Holyoke Catholic girls lacrosse team in a 14-12 home win over Cathedral on Monday afternoon.

Rita Hannoush, Elizabeth Klejna and Genevieve Koumentakis each had two goals as the Gaels (5-6, 2-3 Valley League) held on.

Taylor Leclair and Jess Cavanaugh (assist) each had one goal Gabriela Garvey had two assists and Lauren Fitzgerald had one.

South Hadley 14, Amherst Regional 6 — Meg Ginley scored four goals with an assist as the Tigers (5-6, 3-5 Valley Wheel) were victorious on the road.

Maddie Brandts had three goals in the win, while Kelly Pouliot scored twice with an assist. Brooke Marion (assist), Tara Bainbridge (assist), Sienna Hebert, Kara Callahan and Olivia Slysz added a tally apiece. Claudia Menard chipped in an assist.

Meghan Sharick had a hat trick plus an assist for the Hurricanes (1-10, 0-6). Sarah Mangels scored twice and Taylor Bartmon once, with Eliza Fishman and Leah Goldman picking up an assist each.

Beth Hennessey made three saves for South Hadley, while Katie Dunn stopped nine shots for Amherst.

Belchertown 11, West Springfield 11 — Kayla Panek (two goals, three assists) amassed five points on the day for the Orioles (9-3-1, 6-1-1 Valley League) in the road draw.

Emma Jopson scored three goals for Belchertown, while Kate Bowers (assist) and Kat Lowe had two tallies apiece. Meg Foley and Jackie Soucia added a goal each, with Natalie Caney assisting twice and Alaina Swift once.

Abbey Norden made six stops in net.

Agawam 22, Northampton 12 — Emily Allcroft and Molly King each scored three times, but the Blue Devils (5-6, 2-6 Valley Wheel) couldn’t stop Agawam’s Riley Hellstein (eight goals, 10 points) in the road defeat.

Missie Maiewski (assist), Emily Poehlein, Hunter Zackaricz and Leila Kouakou scored once apiece, while Kerry Fleming and Shannon Keefe picked up two assists each.

Bridget Harrington and Dana Dufour both stopped two shots in goal for Hamp.

Boys volleyball

Belchertown 3, Central 1 — Caleb Bernard had seven kills, while Jordan Vigneault added five kills and two aces as the Orioles (3-10) won at home.

Colter Krzcuik added six kills and four aces, while Kevin Reidy (two kills) and Brandon Allen each had six assists in the 25-18, 25-16, 15-25, 25-18 win.
