Friday’s high school basketball: Northampton pulls away from Longmeadow

The Northampton girls basketball team used a strong second half to earn a quality, early season road victory Friday.

The Blue Devils turned a three-point halftime deficit into a 60-48 victory over Longmeadow.

Northampton trailed 25-22 at the break but outscored the Lancers 21-5 in the third.

Hamp (2-1), which went 16 for 19 from the free-throw line, shot 9 for 10 from the line in the fourth to ice the game.

Anna Walther had 17 points and five assists, while Maya Kerstetter added 15 points.

Anna Moore had 10 rebounds, while Susan Bell had 11 points and five assists.

Hopkins Academy 52, Smith Academy 26 — The Golden Hawks turned a close game at halftime into an easy win behind a full-court press and solid defense.

Hopkins (2-1, 2-0 Franklin South) led 26-18 at halftime but outscored the Falcons 26-8 in the second half.

Kate Sullivan had 14 points while twin sister Mackenzie added 10.

Madi Stevens and Olivia Mathieu each chipped in with eight points.

Cassidy Snyder had 14 points to pace the Falcons (1-2, 0-2).

Granby 61, Cathedral 28 — The Rams (2-0) jumped out to a 22-6 lead after the first period and led 38-8 at halftime en route to the win in Granby.

Kiley Baran had 17 points, while Meghan Sullivan added 13 points and six assists.

Rebecca Sapoukey chipped in with 10 points, while Noelle Menard had five points, six rebounds and six steals.

Frontier Regional 54, Pioneer Valley Regional 30 — Sydney Judge scored 15 points and had a strong night defensively as the Red Hawks rolled in Northfield.

Amanda Calvo added 12 points for Frontier (1-1, 1-1 Hampshire), which opened the game on a 20-5 run.

Belchertown 49, Ware 37 — Marissa Kopacz scored 14 points for the third time in as many games and grabbed 11 rebounds for the second straight game as the Orioles (3-0) continued to roll.

Téa Spellacy led Belchertown with 20 points, six rebounds and five steals, while Kelsey Shea (seven points, seven rebounds) sparked the Orioles with her strong third-quarter play.

Holyoke 57, Amherst Regional 25 — The Hurricanes (0-3) fell behind 17-2 after the first quarter and couldn’t recover as they fell at home.

Justin Bohl and Julia Fay each had six points in defeat.

Kirsy Segarra hit six 3-pointers en route to 22 points for the Purple Knights (2-0).

Holyoke Catholic 37, Pioneer Christian 14 — The Gaels (3-1) led 20-5 at halftime and rolled to the win at Holyoke Community College.

Kyra Robins had 10 points, seven rebounds, six steals and two assists, while Katie Klejna added nine points, eight rebounds and four steals in the win.

Danielle Easton had six points and seven rebounds as well.

Boys basketball

Southwick 54, Gateway Regional 43 — Calvin Dowers had 11 points and Mike Arel added 10 but the Gators (0-4) fell in Huntington.

Ryan Fisk had eight points and seven rebounds in defeat.

Renaissance 77, Smith Vocational 34 — Despite 13 points by Jordan Castillo, the Vikings fell in Springfield.

Smith (0-2) trailed 39-24 at halftime, but the Phoenix continued to pull away.

Hockey

Easthampton 4, St. Mary 4 — Tim Pfau scored the equalizer with 1:58 left in regulation to complete a hat trick as the Eagles (0-1-2) earned an independent tie at Amelia Park Rink in Westfield.

Alex Zadworny had a goal and two assists for Easthampton, while Mike Grise assisted twice and Rob Carmel once.

Kris Pause (17 saves) and Sean Rose (six) split time in goal for the Eagles.
