Tuesday’s girls soccer: Smith Academy wins with strong second half

Smith Academy 4, Holyoke Catholic 2 — The Falcons (7-1, 6-0 Franklin County) overcame sloppy conditions and an early deficit to defeat the Gaels (5-5-2, 0-3-2 Pioneer) on the road.

Mollie Higgins, Cassidy Snyder and Mia Ellis scored second-half goals to break a 1-1 tie at halftime.

Smith found itself in an early hole when Lexi Neffinger scored for Catholic in the first 10 minutes of the match.

However, once the Falcons found their footing on the wet grass, they rattled off four of the next five goals.

Olivia Hanson (one goal, one assist) scored Smith’s goal in the first half, while Kory Wagner and Nicole Gay added assists. Danielle Easton tallied in the second half for the Gaels, and Gillian Cassidy-Payson and Kylee Wyndka each dished out an assist.

Brooke Pashek stopped four shots in her team’s win. Katie Klejna made eight saves for the Gaels.

Athol 1, Frontier Regional 1 — Sam Clift scored from Casey Michalowski and Camilla Baronas made 17 saves for the Red Hawks (0-6-2) in South Deerfield.
