Friday’s colleges: Amherst baseball upends Trinity in NESCAC tournament
John Cook pitched 52∕3 innings of relief and Dave Cunningham knocked in the tying and go-ahead runs as the Amherst College baseball team rallied to beat top-seeded Trinity in the double-elimination NESCAC tournament.
The No. 2 Lord Jeffs (23-11) will face Wesleyan at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Trailing 4-2, Cook struck out four, walked none and allowed one run on three hits in relief to keep Amherst in the game.
Andrew Vandini went 3-for-4, while Cook was 2-for-4 with a double, triple and a pair of runs scored.
Cunningham, Jonathan Ramirez and Nolan Stewart each drove in a pair of runs for the Jeffs.
Amherst 5, College of New Jersey 0 — The third-ranked Lord Jeffs (28-8) rolled through the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament with the victory at home.
Joey Fritz and Justin Reindel opened the match with a victory at No. 3 doubles and Fritz ended the match with a win at No. 1 singles.
