  • The Varsity 8 crews of the University of Massachusetts, at right in the black Amanda Kraus shell, and the University of Connecticut, in the white Witryo's Wake shell, went head-to-head in the first of six races that UMass hosted on the Connecticut River along the Hatfield shoreline Wednesday morning. The Minutewomen, from right, are coxswain Emily Hajjar, Taryn Wilson, Claudia Caballero Larco, Kendall Bennett, Stephanie Brockert, Candace Miller, Michaela Streitfield, Marika Kopp and Angela Stigliano. UMass lost this 2000 meter Varsity 8 race by 3.57 seconds but won four of the day's six races.
