Springfield College gymnast Brittany Baglow of Amherst four-time All-American

Amherst native Brittany Baglow finished her Springfield College gymnastics career with two more All-America honors Saturday in Whitewater, Wisc.

At the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association Championships, Baglow finished tied for third in the balance beam, recording a 9.500. The score was good for first-team All-America honors. Her eighth-place finish in the vault (9.425) was good for second team All-America.

Baglow has four All-America honors in her decorated career at Springfield.

On Friday, the senior placed third in the all-around competition (37.650), good for first-team All-America.

Baglow earned an All-America honor for the Pride in 2011 in the balance beam.

Men’s lacrosse

UMass 13, Hartford 11 – Kyle Smith had a career-high six goals for the Minutemen in the win Saturday in West Hartford.

Grant Whiteway added three goals UMass (5-4).

Nazareth 9, Amherst 5 — Kane Haffey had two goals but the Lord Jeffs (2-4) lost Sunday in Albany.

Women’s lacrosse

Mount Holyoke 11, Springfield College 10 — Brianne Phelan scored late to give the Lyons (6-1) the win over the defending NEWMAC champion Sunday in South Hadley.

Julia Bell led the Mount Holyoke with three goals.


George Washington 1, UMass 0 — Jordan Pace threw a complete game, struck out five and gave up five hits, but the Minutemen (1-12, 0-3 A-10) couldn’t get the offense going Sunday in Arlington, Va.

Amherst 12, Western Connecticut 9; Amherst 8, Western Connecticut 5 ; Grinnell 8, Amherst 4 — Conner Gunn and Eric West combined to drive in 11 runs as the Lord Jeffs (7-4) swept a doubleheader Sunday in Auburndale, Fla.


UMass 13, Dayton 12 — The Minutewomen broke an 11-game losing streak with a win Saturday in Dayton, Ohio.

Katie Bettencourt went 5-for-5 with three RBIs for UMass (3-16, 1-1 A-10).

Quianna Diaz-Patterson of Amherst had a hit and an RBI.

Amherst 10, Southern Maine 4; Amherst 8, SUNY Oneonta 0 — The Lord Jeffs won a pair Saturday in Clearmont Fla.

In the opener against Southern Maine, Amherst (9-3) scored seven runs in the first inning. Reilly Horan went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the game.

Theresa Kelley tossed a one-hitter in the nightcap against SUNY, striking out seven.

Coast Guard 12, Smith College 2; Coast Guard 4, Smith College 2 — Edie Richard had two hits and three RBIs combined, but the Pioneers (4-6, 0-2 NEWMAC) opened conference play with two losses Sunday in New London, Conn.

Susquehanna 15, McDaniel 14 — Kate Goldstein of Amherst made 16 saves in Saturday’s loss in Westminister, Md.

Anna Beaudry, also from Amherst, had an assist for the Green Terror.

Women’s swimming & diving

Amherst College finished sixth at the NCAA Championships in Shenandoah, Texas Sunday.

Emily Hyde broke her own school record in the 200-back (2:16.43), finishing fourth.

Men’s swimming & diving

Amherst College placed seventh at the NCAA Championships in Shenandoah, Texas Sunday.

Connor Sholtis led the Lord Jeffs with a sixth-place finish in the 100-free (44.70).

Men’s track & field

South Hadley native Will Demakis took second in the 400-hurdles for Gettysburg College at the Little Three Meet Saturday in Gettyburg, Pa.

Men’s tennis

Amherst 8, UW-Whitewater 1; Amherst 9, Carleton 0; San Diego Mesa College 7, Amherst 2 — The Lord Jeffs won their last two matches after a loss to San Diego Mesa in Ponoma, Calif., Saturday.

Joey Fritz won No. 1 singles for the Jeffs against Whitewater.

Women’s tennis

Amherst 5, Johns Hopkins 4; Amherst 9, Washington & Lee 0 — The No. 2 Lord Jeffs had two wins in Atlanta over the weekend, including Saturday’s over top-ranked Johns Hopkins Saturday.

Jordan Brewer won top-singles in both matches for Amherst.

Men’s golf

Zak Kennedy of Florence finished tied for 23rd with an 85 for Gettysburg at its spring invitational Saturday in Gettysburg, Pa.
