Keri Lambert of Amherst six-time All-American
Amherst native Keri Lambert became a six-time All-American for Amherst College with a sixth-place finish in the 5000-meter run at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships in Naperville, Ill., Saturday.
Lambert, whose honors stem from cross country, indoor track and outdoor track, finished the event in 17 minutes, 8.67 seconds.
Bucknell 7, UMass 4 — Kyle Smith had a hat trick, but the Minutemen (3-3) lost their third game in a row Saturday in Lewisburg, Pa.
Zach Oliveri made 13 saves for UMass.
Bates 10, Amherst 9 (OT); Colby 11, Amherst 10 (OT) — The Lord Jeffs opened their season with two overtime losses over the weekend on the road.
On Sunday, the Lord Jeffs (0-2) got four goals from Devin Acton but lost to Bates.
Dylan Park had two goals and added two assists Saturday against Colby.
Amherst 9, Bates 8; Colby 10, Amherst 7 – Priscilla Tyler scored a combined seven goals as the No. 8 Lord Jeffs opened their season with a 1-1 weekend at home.
Western New England 20, Smith College 10 — Jessica Lillquist had four goals for the Pioneers, who fell in their season-opener at home Saturday.
Mount Holyoke 19, New England College 5 — Kirsten Kilburn scored four goals as the Lyons (3-1) cruised at home Saturday.
McDaniel College 20, Bridewater 13 — Anna Beaudry of Amherst scored two goals with an assist for the Green Terror (2-1) in the win Saturday in Westminister, Md.
Men’s track and field
Amherst College’s Matt Melton finished in sixth place to earn All-American honors in the 800-meters at the Indoor Championships Saturday.
Melton finished in 1:53.63.
Lamar 10, UMass 2; Lamar 8, UMass 0 – Anthony Serino had two hits and two runs scored in the first game as the Minutemen (1-5) were swept in a doubleheader Saturday in Beaumont, Texas.
Central Michigan 6, UMass 2; Northwestern 8, UMass 0; Western Michigan 12, UMass 10 — Amherst native Quianna Diaz-Patterson’s three-run homer against Western Michigan wasn’t enough to keep the Minutewomen (2-11) from falling three times over the weekend at the Under Armour Showcase in Clearwater, Fla.
Diaz-Patterson also had a hit and scored once aginst Central Michigan.
Nichols 7, Smith College 2 — Tessy Lopez won her No. 6 singles match but the Pioneers (1-8) lost at home Saturday.
Amherst 9, Wesleyan 0 — Jen Newman won No. 1 singles and paired with Zoe Pangalos to win No. 1 doubles in a win for the Lord Jeffs (2-0) Saturday in Middletown.
