Boston University ices UMass, 5-2

After a scoreless first period, the University of Massachusetts hockey team spent the rest of the game playing from behind.

The Minutemen never could get even and Boston University eventually pulled away for a 5-2 win Friday at Agganis Arena in Boston.

Wade Megan put BU (2-1-0, 2-1-0 Hockey East) ahead 51 seconds into the second period and Danny O’Regan stretched the home team’s edge to 2-0 less than four minutes later.

Branden Gracel’s unassisted goal with 5:03 left in the second period gave UMass momentum headed into intermission.

But O’Regan scored again less than five minutes into the third for a 3-1 lead. A Joel Hanley goal from Conor Sheary brought UMass within one with 10:33 left, but BU scored less than a minute later and added an empty-netter to close out the scoring.
