Tuesday’s colleges: Syracuse men’s soccer blanks UMass
The Syracuse men’s soccer team handed the University of Massachusetts its first home loss of the season Tuesday.
The Minutemen fell 2-0 at Rudd Field in their final nonconference game of the season.
Jordan Murrell and Skylar Thomas each scored for the Orange (8-2).
Brian Frame finished with six saves in the loss for UMass (3-4-2).
Amherst 5, Curry 0 — Spencer Noon, James Mooney, Mike Hoeksema (two assists), Garrett Van Wie and Greg Singer each scored as the Lord Jeffs (6-0 cruised on the road.
Women’s volleyball
Smith College 3, Wheaton 1 — Mei-Li Smith had six kills, 15 assists, 14 digs, two blocks and three aces, while Rosa Dummond added 11 kills and 11 digs as the Pioneers (5-6, 2-2 NEWMAC) won 21-25, 25-15, 25-14, 27-25 in Northampton.
Babson 3, Mount Holyoke 0 — Martina Kneifel had seven kills and 12 digs but the Lyons (2-6, 0-4 NEWMAC) fell in Babson Park.
Women’s soccer
Mount Holyoke 9, Bay Path 0 — Sophomore Hannah Yee of Amherst scored four goals and added one assist to power the Lyons (2-5-1) in Longmeadow.
Ally Madden had two goals, while Mallory Phaneuf, Patricia Walchessen and Kara Singleton (assist) each scored once.
Western New England 4, Elms College 2 — Carmen Marino of Granby and Leah Spring of South Hadley each had one assist but the Blazers (1-6-1) fell in Springfield.
Field hockey
Wesleyan 3, Mount Holyoke 1 — Kirsten Kilburn scored and Angelica Pascual had the assist but the Lyons (4-3) fell on the road.
